Words for Work offers workplace readiness skills for any field and vocationally specific instruction for the high-demand occupations of healthcare and construction. Words for Work can be offered as facilitated or self-paced online courses.

    Facilitated


    The facilitated course is designed to take 42-70 hours. Half of the time students work independently on computers and during the other half they work with a facilitator to reinforce concepts and practice English. A step-by-step guide, that includes customizable worksheets, offers guidance to either the seasoned ESL instructor or general facilitator.

    Words for Work: Workplace Readiness for Latinos (42 hours)
    This course offers an introduction to the American workplace with a focus on real world experiences such as completing online job applications and building resumes, help prepare learners for job interviews. English language learning takes place within an occupational context focusing on workplace readiness, job skills and basic math.

    Words for Work: English for Healthcare Jobs (70 hours)
    The Healthcare track teaches students how to obtain an entry-level healthcare job and begin building a career in this high-demand field. Through an engaging web-based interactive course, students gain the essential "quick-start" English language and job skills that lead to vocational success. Course offers a strong focus on healthcare workplace safety!

    Words for Work: English for Construction Jobs (70 hours)
    The Construction track teaches students how to obtain an entry-level construction job and begin building a career in this high-demand field. Through an engaging web-based course, students gain the essential "quick-start" English language and job skills that lead to vocational success. Course offers a strong focus on construction workplace safety!

    Self-Paced


    Words for Work can also be offered as a self-paced course. Minimal keyboarding skills are required as the materials are driven by the simple use of the mouse. Instructions, in Spanish, will help students with their initial login and Spanish supports throughout the courses will provide additional assistance. Because students are trying to improve language skills, it is recommended that some assistance be made available to minimize disruption to the students.
